Since its earliest days in the 1970's, Faith Neighborhood Center (originally Clermont Neighborhood Center), a faith-based ministry, has recognized the value of one person helping another in need. The love of one neighbor for another is expressed, not in mere words, but in deeds of mercy and kindness at the point of need.

The area served by the center is the southern part of Lake County, including the cities of Clermont, Groveland, Mascotte, Minneola and Montverde. Support for the center comes from churches, service clubs, businesses, private organizations, individuals, and foundations. Special funding is provided by United Way of Lake & Sumpter Counties through the Human Care Network.

Faith Neighborhood Center is a 501(c)3 organization that is dedicated to assisting needy people with the basic necessities of life. The center provides food, clothing, miscellaneous household items and financial assistance for utilities, medicine and rent. Donations should be brought to the center during open hours, if possible.

Volunteers are the essential ingredient that keeps the Neighborhood Center going. Without them, operations would cease and the doors would close. Imagine what would happen to the 2,500 folks all across Lake County who depend on t he Center for a portion of the basic necessities of life each month.

Have you ever stopped to consider why people volunteer, why they give of their time and talents to help others? It can't be for the money. It's got to be for some more fundamental reason.

The volunteers at the Center come from various walks of life. Some have been in business, some are retired professionals, many are homemakers, but all are dedicated, loyal folks who want to make a difference in the lives of those who have not yet experienced a high degree of success.

If you would like to join this wonderful group of people, just call Executive Director Mr. Jerry Colyer at 352-223-8371.

Mrs. Gloria Medow, one of Shepherd of the Hills's members, is on the Board of Directors of the Center.
